Guide to Action in the Event of Weather Emergencies

Prevention and safety protocols during storm alerts

The arrival of a storm with heavy rain and strong winds requires a response based on calmness and organisation. Being prepared in advance helps reduce risks and allows us to act more effectively when weather conditions become adverse.

Preventive measures at home

It is essential to prepare the home to ensure the autonomy of its occupants for at least 48 to 72 hours.

Basic supplies

Food and water: Check your supply of non-perishable food and drinking water.

Energy: Have alternative light sources available, such as flashlights, candles or charged batteries, in case of possible power cuts.

Health: Ensure the availability of any necessary medication for people with chronic treatments or special healthcare needs.

Home maintenance

  • Clean drains, outlets and gutters to prevent flooding.

  • Remove or secure outdoor objects that could be blown away by the wind (plant pots, terrace furniture, awnings).

Protocol for high-risk areas

In areas prone to flooding or particularly vulnerable zones, additional protective measures are recommended:

Animal protection: Move animals to elevated and safe areas well in advance.

Protection of belongings: Raise furniture, protect electronic equipment and store important documents safely on upper floors.

Vehicles: Avoid parking in dry riverbeds, low-lying areas or locations that have historically experienced water accumulation.

Community and solidarity

Collective safety depends on citizen cooperation. It is recommended to contact neighbours who live alone, elderly people or those who may require special assistance, ensuring that they have basic supplies and are aware of the safety recommendations.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Remain calm at all times. There is no reason for alarm if the recommended preparation measures are followed. Stay informed exclusively through official channels such as Civil Protection, the emergency number 112, and the relevant authorities.

This article is for informational and preventive purposes only. In any situation involving immediate risk, contact the emergency services by calling 112.
