This is the case of the Medical Units (UMIF), a healthcare service integrated into the operational response that provides medical support and ensures the health and safety of personnel during wildfire suppression operations.

In Andalusia, we are currently in the high-risk forest fire season, which runs until 15 October.

As part of the Forest Fire Campaign, the INFOCA Plan has incorporated a new Eurocopter AS332 Super Puma helicopter, based in Cártama (Málaga).

• Carries up to 16 forest firefighters.

• Has a water-carrying capacity of 3,500 litres.

In addition, the recent incorporation of 32 new fire engines into the INFOCA Plan just over two years ago has replaced many ageing vehicles, helping to improve the safety of all personnel involved in each deployment while increasing operational effectiveness.

Sustainable Development in Andalusia

The Sustainable Development Department of Andalusia, responsible for Environment and Water within the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, has produced a video offering advice on wildfire prevention and guidance on how to act in the event of a fire near forested areas.

The wildland-urban interface fires that occur every year in Andalusia highlight the importance of citizens and local authorities adopting appropriate self-protection measures.
