We are still deeply saddened by the recent passing of former motorcycle racer Ángel Nieto, a 13-time World Champion. Known for his triskaidekaphobia, he famously referred to his achievements as "12 + 1" world titles instead of thirteen.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest riders in the history of Spanish motorcycle racing and a true pioneer of the sport, Ángel Nieto inspired a new generation of Spanish riders who began making their mark on the international motorcycle racing scene in the late 1980s.
On 4 August, it was announced that the Jerez Circuit would be renamed the Circuito Ángel Nieto in his honour. This tribute recognizes not only his outstanding career as a motorcycle racer but also his strong connection with the city, both during and after his racing career. The official name change was expected to take place during the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix.
At Semesur Assistance, we provide medical services at this circuit every year, supporting the many events held there. For this reason, we would like to pay this small tribute to one of the legends of motorcycle racing, whose legacy has contributed so much to this incredible sport.
