In this week's blog post, we'd like to share a few simple tips to help you enjoy a worry-free holiday this year.
Many families look forward to taking a well-earned break after a long year of work and stress. However, remember that burglars often target homes that appear to be unoccupied.
Interestingly, around 40% of home burglaries are reported to take place during the month of August.
- 1. Make sure all doors and windows are securely locked before you leave. However, avoid closing the shutters completely, as this is often one of the first signs that a house is empty.
- 2. If you have a trusted neighbour or friend, ask them to visit your home from time to time to open and close the shutters or curtains, making it appear that someone is still at home.
- 3. Keep valuable items out of sight. Even if a burglar manages to enter your home, there's no need to make things easy. Cash, jewellery, important documents, and other valuables should be stored securely so you can enjoy your holiday with greater peace of mind.
- 4. If you're going away for an extended period, don't leave food in the fridge or kitchen, as it may attract unwanted visitors such as insects.
- 5. A reliable alarm system is probably the most important item on this list, don't you think? Many modern systems even allow you to monitor your home's security cameras directly from your smartphone.
- 6. Avoid sharing too much information online. Posting holiday photos with your location on social media may be tempting—"Here we are in Ibiza enjoying cocktails!"—but it's best to wait until you return. Burglars often research their potential targets, and keeping your whereabouts private may help you avoid an unpleasant surprise.
Finally, we would like to wish you a wonderful holiday, whether you're travelling with your family, partner, or friends.
